Jorge Beale, M.D. Hyperbaric Medicine Course Scholarship


Life Support Technologies group (LST) has created a scholarship in memory of Jorge Beale, M.D.  A true pioneer and educator in diving and hyperbaric medicine, Dr. Beale was fundamental to LST's vitality and work.  The winner of this scholarship will be invited to an LST 40-hour Introduction to Hyperbaric Medicine course which is accredited by both the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS) and also the National Board of Diving & Hyperbaric Medical Technology (NBDHMT).  LST offers 4 Hyperbaric Medicine courses a year, hosted by LST hospital affiliates in the greater NY region.



The Jorge Beale Scholarship is available to all health care professionals, including EMT, Paramedic, RT, RN, CNA, LPN, PA, MD, DO, and DPM.  Scholarship application consists of writing a 500-word essay addressing, "Why I should be awarded the Jorge Beale, M.D., Hyperbaric Scholarship."

The Scholarship will be awarded at the Beneath the Sea Awards Dinner, Saturday, March 23rd, 2013, during the Beneath the Sea diving conference at the Meadowlands, NJ.

The Scholarship winner will receive a spot, valued at up to $975, in one of LST's Hyperbaric courses.  (Hotel and expenses are not covered.)

Jorge Beale, M.D., specialized in Advanced Wound Care and Hyperbaric Medicine.  He seized on the opportunity to bring the enhanced healing power of hyperbaric medicine to Mount Vernon Hospital, Mt. Vernon, NY, where he ran a Wound Healing Clinic.  Dr. Beale served as Medical Director of the Wound and Hyperbaric Center at Mount Vernon Hospital, Mt. Vernon, NY.  He gave tirelessly of hos medical expertise and compassion to assist and heal many of the under-privileged and elderly with is community, often absorbing some, or all, of the associated costs himself.  He would heal wounds with a combination of balms, dressings, soothing words, and sympathetic ears; his was the universal language of empathy and compassion.  Dr. Beale lived by the phrase, "People don't care how much you know until they know how much you care."

In 2008, Dr. Beale passed away.
